The Sunflower Blogger Award

This post should have come weeks ago but you know how things can be. Georgette and I were emailing and it turned out she had nominated me and mentioned me on Facebook but I didn't see it. By the time she called my attention to it, I was tied down getting ready for exams so I just decided to get it done after.
Thanks to Georgette for nominating me. It means a lot.
The Rules:
The Rules for the Competition are as follows:

1. Share 11 facts about yourself
2. Answer the questions set by the blogger that nominated you
3. Nominate 11 bloggers
4. Set 7 questions for nominated bloggers

My 11 Facts
1) My name Oluwamayowa means "God has brought joy". Apt, if you asked me.

2) The Guardian are my favorite media outlet in the whole wide world.
3) When I was younger I thought I could fly. It's how I got the scar on my head.
4) No one ever believes me when I say this but I'm very shy.
5) I'm obsessed with knowing stuff. Not in a nosey way. More like, I want to be that person that's your lifeline when you have to phone a friend on 'Who wants to be a Millionaire?'
6) I'm probably the most annoying person in the world. It's actually something I used to work hard at.
7) I love cooking. My fried rice is LEGEN (wait for it) DARY!!!!!!!!!!
8) I speak in hyperbole a lot. I've lost count of the number of TV shows and fictional characters I've proclaimed "the greatest ever". Cliff & Clare Huxtable, Don Draper, Carrie Bradshaw and Jack Bauer to name a few.
9) I used to be a superstar athlete when I was younger. Okay, that's an exaggeration. But I was pretty fast.
10) I've been scared of dogs my whole life. Then my parents got a dog a couple of years ago. And I was still scared of it. Like I would run into the house if the dog was out. My Dad took it upon himself to make me overcome that fear and I'm now so much comfortable with it. I don't flinch when he sniffs or licks my feet now. I'm proud of me.
11) I can be very argumentative. Perhaps, it'll be more appropriate to say "I'm a great debater". Sometimes, I go as far as arguing for something I don't believe in. Just to test how resolutely the person I'm debating with believes in what they're saying . Sorry not sorry.

1. What is the best post you have read on my blog and why? (If you have featured as a Guest Writer on my blog, you cannot choose your own post)
I think the best writing should stir emotion.  On that note, the best piece of writing I've found on Georgette's blog is her piece on the Bring Back Our Girls campaign.

2. Why did you start your blog?
If I'm right, I'm on my third blog. I first blogged on Yahoo 360, in like 2008 and I just did it cos I needed a platform to publish my thoughts. There was no point writing all those brilliant essays and keeping them to myself.  But that particular platform was not really the best so I set up one on Blogspot. I like my personal blog (mayowaidowu.com) because it's a way for people to measure the evolution of my thoughts and ideas . Now it serves as my portfolio in a sense, all the freelance work I do goes on there.

I don't like when people call Culture Custodian a blog because I'm a snob like that (It's a lifestyle website) but for all intents and purposes, I'll speak of it here as a blog. But Yeah! That's the most recent project. My job as Editor is to try and conceptualize ideas that would interest our readers and I think I do a great job in terms of doing the needful in the most creative and out of the box way. I thought it was the next step; to go from doing my own thing to building something less Mayowa centric and designed more to be an influence and curator for a generation. And even if I shouldn't say so myself, I love it. I can't wait till the rest of the world sees what I know.

3. If you were asked to replay a certain moment in your life which would it be?

Probably the moment I was born. I'll love to look in my parents eyes and gauge the feeling of undiluted love. I think it'll be priceless.

4. What do your parents call you at home?
"Mayo" or "Ade". "Mayo" 'cos obviously it's a shortened form of my name. "Ade" was a school nickname, my brother brought home. My Mum can be a troll so when she saw how much I didn't like it, she started calling me that.

5. Who is your celebrity crush and why?
I've got like a million but I'll talk about Joan Smalls and Chrissy Teigen. I have an obsession with models.  Joan is beautiful and sweet and she just seems like a great person. I like Chrissy cos she likes food and I can imagine she'll brighten up my very dull life.

6. What is your dream holiday destination?

Monaco. Any reason to pretend I'm rich.

7. If you were asked to represent one brand, which would it be and why?

Kanye West and everything he does. He's one of the last real geniuses. I'll be able to rationalize everything he does and I think it'll be fun to be a walking advert for him.

My Questions are as follows;
Who are your favorite bloggers and why?
Why did you start your blog?
If you were asked to represent one brand, which would it be and why?
What's the most fascinating thing you've learnt of recent?
What is your greatest achievement?
What's the best music album you have listened to this year?
What is your dream job?

I nominate:
Eyitemi of From A Girl's Mind
Abi Tobi of It's the Things in Life
Antonia of Toni Verse
