End of Year Review: Person of the Year

Person of the Year

Aisha: This year Adam Levine got engaged to a Victoria’s Secret model, was named Sexiest Man Alive by People, released 2 new fragrances and might just win this season of The Voice. He is definitely having the year of his life and he is my person so I thought he deserved a shout out.

To Folarin Rhodes because he called me 10 hours after I failed to get Beyonce concert tickets to ask if I wanted him to buy me one. I was and still am so grateful!

Afam: Eichiro Oda. He's the mangaka of One piece. It's incredible.

Faridah: YEEZUS! Love him or hate him, he's been the topic of some of your conversations this year.

Mayowa: Malala is the obvious choice. Her story is heart breaking and inspirational at the same time. Named after the 'Afghan Jeanne d'Arc', Malalai of Maiwand who is credited for successfully rallying her troops in the second Anglo Afghan war, it is evident seeking justice is in her code. Besides standing up to the Taliban, she was fearless enough to chastise President Obama for his use of drone strikes in Pakistan. She is a reminder that we should never be scared to challenge injustice when we see it.

Can I have a round of applause for the shaggy haired lothario that is Russell Brand? Brand is not the most likeable person in the world. He conveyed his desire to relieve himself of his marriage by text. He can come across as a sexist, womanizing pig. Beneath that air lies one of the most articulate men in the world. Coming from a background which contains a tick right next to all the great addictions, he speaks with a depth of understanding that the stereotypical public schooled educated Politician can never ever attain. His recent revolution rhetoric has struck a chord with me as he captured perfectly the feeling of disillusion and disappointment I feel with the political ruling class. If there was any surprise as to why Mr. Brand's list of conquests was so impressive, it is clear now.

Georgette: It would have to be my group of friends that are Writers. They are all talented and all have their own unique writing voice from the satirical to the serious, and to be honest, without them knowing it, they have pushed me to be a better writer and get my work out on as many platforms as possible. Thanks guys.
