Musings II

Kanye West, Chris Brown and some random guy

Chris Brown was in the News yesterday for trashing a dressing room after being asked about Rihanna during an Interview. Whilst I do feel sorry for him a little bit, he hasn’t helped matters with his handling of the situation. Kanye West went through the same type of treatment in the build up to the release of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy with persistent questioning relating to the Taylor Swift and George Bush incidents. Eventually, when it became too much he decided to give up on promoting the album and stop granting the interviews including one with Oprah Winfrey. The Media are a mean machine of some sorts. They remember what they want to remember. Whilst we all make mistakes, we have no choice than to live with them. No matter how many dressing room trashing sessions or Twitter melt downs one has, it has no effect on the fact that the deed has already been done. Get on with it.

By submitting yourself to an Interview, you have given the interviewer license to ask you whatever he deems fit. You need the publicity too. If you can take it when it’s to your benefit, you have no right to complain when it’s critical of you. If Brown and West are tired of being asked certain questions, make it clear to the Media body when they submit their Interview request that you’re not willing to take questions on something you see as sensitive. If they agree, Good. If they don’t, life goes on.

"Only 4 sets of people can vote for the PDP: (1) those who are intellectually blind; (2) those who are blinded by ethnicity; (3) those who are blinded by corruption and therefore afraid of the unknown, should power change hands; and finally (4) those who are suffering from a combination of the above terminal sicknesses.” Wole Soyinka

The things we think are hidden/suppressed are the most obvious. It’s so saddening seeing the way those in positions of power have abused the privileges and think that it’s shrouded in secrecy. The Wiki Leaks revelations with regard to Nigeria prove this. The fact that things which have escaped public attention and scrutiny were so clear to outsiders (The American embassy) is the greatest indictment on those in Power. Kudos to Next for being consistent with their revelations.

Words sting. A lot of things we say which we think hold no malice actually do and cause a significant degree of hurt. You can sugarcoat or soften with an ‘lol’ all you want, wise people ( e.g Yours Truly) read between those lines and take it to heart.

In your opinion, who’s the closest to being the most charismatic member of this generation. Being a writer, I have soft spots for Tolu Ogunlesi and Chiamanda Adichie but I’m more interested in knowing what the general population think.
Chiamanda Adichie

Tolu Ogunlesi
I take it really personal when people say “You act like you’re smarter than everyone”.It really gets on my nerves. Do you see me walking around with a top saying “Hi! I’m  Mayowa and I’m smarter than you?”. Personally, I think its people who feel inferior/ insecure at the fact that you beat them at an argument or made them look ‘unsmart’ who say this. If I was smarter than everyone else, how come I’m not operating at a far greater level?  Shouldn’t I at the age of 14 been on a scholarship to Harvard or Oxford studying Mathematics with Statistics?  You can’t win every argument. Be a gracious loser and search yourself(So that you’ll win the next one), instead of projecting your insecurity unto innocent people.

Want to know the worst footballing experience you can possibly get? Being an Arsenal fan with English and Nigerian ties. Nothing but disappointment unparalleled/tears awaits.

  1. Wow! Didn't know Kanye refused Oprah. That's wonderful lol

  2. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie!!!!! I totally adore her! Sorry to comment unnecessarily but I just had to. She is awesome :)
