Guest Blogger: Life Lessons: Vomero’s Laws by Vome Aghoghovbia
In the words of Albert Einstein, “Your imagination is your preview of life's coming attractions.” With imagination you can get anywhere but sometimes you can't even imagine how big you are going to get when you start something small. Looking at Faraday’s background, I am sure no one ever thought he will come to any good. He came from a poor background, had the most basic education and had to start working at the age of 14 for a book binder. He turned his disadvantage into an advantage. He didn’t only bind the books but read them and that is how he educated himself. In the class-based English society of the time, Faraday was not considered a gentleman. He was an Assistant to Davy. He was maltreated by Davy’s wife who refused to treat him as an equal. He was made so miserable that he contemplated giving up science altogether. Deciding to be patient and staying gave him access to a host of stimulating ideas. All that withstanding, Faraday ended up being the most influential scientist in history and even ended up rejecting a knighthood. He ended up being greater than his boss as no one really mentions his name.
It is very easy to give up. But taking the easy way out and perseverance differentiates the successful ones from the unsuccessful. Davy (his boss) tried but failed to design an electric motor, Faraday tried it and he did it (I’m sure Davy’s wife was jealous). Faraday was also described as a very religious person and we all know God is the foundation of everything. Even after Faraday discovered electricity, the questions he was asked may have discouraged him. But you know what “Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds”. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but courageously uses his intelligence. He wasn't sure if it was going to be something big but he was positive it could also be something huge! Positivity goes a long way.
We know of people who weren't the brightest and others who were told their dreams were silly but still ended up being some of the biggest names in history. Always try and turn a disadvantage into an advantage always be positive and the most important, God should be the foundation in all you do. Your imagination is a powerful tool and one of the best gifts you have been blessed with, it can think up the craziest things and with hard work you can achieve the craziest things.
