"After Music, my career path choice had always been Journalism. In primary school, I would tear out the pages of my dictionary (don’t tell my Mum) just so I could pretend I was an anchor. It took me a few years to convince my Dad to let me study it in school but with a few cutesy words and puppy eyes, I was set.
When school started we were required to make podcasts and I was familiar with them before but I didn’t know they made audio versions. The last week of school I was bored out of my skull and I wanted to do something to occupy me, and the people in my social network.
I tried blogging, but then I realized almost every person that has access to the internet, knows how to type and wants to do something blogs related. I didn’t really want to do podcasts but I tweeted my confusion anyway. Yemisi Thomas convinced me to do it and I got to work on my first show. It took me three days to set it up, get it on iTunes etc. I listened to a few to hear how others did it and what I could do to make it different, then I looked for Nigerian ones. Lord save my ears from what I heard! With all the knowledge I had acquired about audio and sound quality, none of them lived up to that.
The Bella H. Podcast is, like I announce at the beginning of every show, a podcast about anything. I try to update it once a month because I have school as well but it works out.
Some may say I am heartless but in podcasting, other people’s failures inspire me. They make me want to be better. Aside from being for the entertainment of the people, the podcast is also for my personal use as a portfolio of my work in audio so I try to make it as professional as possible.
It’s amazing how a thousand and even more people around the world could appreciate something created out of boredom. People from Malaysia write on my page and tell me how much they love it. It is a great feeling."
